Taper taps have lead in threads and are used as a starting tap in difficult or high precision holes. They are general purpose taps suitable for hand and machine operation, and are suitable for production use. Bottom taps have lead threads and are used when tapping blind holes. Usually preceded by a taper or intermediate tap.They have a square shank for use with a suitable tap wrench to drive the tap. Intermediate taps have a lead of four threads and are used in most general purpose applications. They are made from tungsten chrome alloy with a bright finish for general purpose applications, non-ferrous metals & plastics. Always use lubricant.
